Birthplaces of Software Developers in U.S. through 2018

Over the past several years, there have been numerous articles mentioning claims that some Indian hiring managers are biased in favor of hiring other Indians. Examples are articles titles “Korean-American software engineer claims discrimination by Intel managers of Indian descent”“The US says Oracle is encouraging Indians to hire other Indians-and it’s killing diversity”, and “Former Infosys recruiter says he was told not to hire U.S. workers”. Of course, there may be similar claims regarding the hiring practices of other groups. In any event, it would seem that the risk of hiring bias and/or nepotism likely rises as any group starts to monopolize the hiring process. For this reason, it seems useful to look at the demographics of software developers in various locales.
